New Zealand

New Zealand is one of the primary export markets for Japanese used cars. As such, it is relatively easy to find the information you need to help you through the import process.

Rather than reiterating everything here, it is best it you go directly to the official New Zealand government website here that gives very specific guidance on the latest used vehicle import rules and procedures. However, to give you a basic overview, first of all the car must comply with basic emissions requirements. Often you can see what is called the “emissions code” written on the auction sheet prior to entering your bid:

If this emissions code is not on the auction sheet, we can get this information for you before you finalize your bid. In practice, the cars that are borderline are 2000 / 2001 models and so if you are looking at a car that is much younger than that you would not really need to worry.

After arrival in New Zealand, cars are subjected to a strict inspection regime, which is why we recommend that our customers only consider cars of grade 4 and above. Of course, the auction grade of the car is a broad category, so we also make sure you have a translation of all the details on the auction sheet before you finalize your bid so you have a good idea of the detailed condition before we get it for you.
