Japanese Market Trends

Japanese car auctions experience seasonal variations in terms of the numbers of vehicles available and the average prices of vehicles sold. The peak season in terms of high numbers (and, as a result, lower prices) tends to occur between February and April annually. The busiest auction days during this period can see over 50,000 vehicles being auctioned live.

The reason for this seasonal ebb and flow is connected with the Japanese tax year. Many companies end their accounting year in April, and also car taxt is payable for the new year in May. Both of these factors mean that there is an economic incentive for people to trade in their old car and get a new one in the spring time. The large number of trade-ins results in a glut of cars available in the auctions, increasing variety and driving prices down.

This does not mean that the rest of the year is quiet, though: Even at other times in the year on the quietest day of the week (Monday) there is often around 7,000 vehicles that we can bid on for you.
