Japanese new car imports down 27%

posted November 4th, 2011 by jonfrench

Not so good news for Yanase, Japan’s representative for most foreign made models, the new car sales of foreign cars in Japan is down 26.7% compared to a year ago.

Perhaps the only good news is that truck sales increased by 37.5%

New Honda NSX confirmed

posted October 14th, 2011 by jonfrench

According to autocar.co.uk, Honda plans to release it’s latest model of the iconic Honda NSX, it could be on sale as early as next year.  Takanobu Ito stated that Honda was working on the next generation of its electric vehicle, and suggested that a new sportscar would be evaluated as part of that project.  He widely hinted that the new Honda NSX would be a hybrid.

Reports have suggested the concept car would be shown at next month’s Tokyo motor show and a production car being produced early in 2012.

Don’t hope to buy one in one of the Japanese car auctions any day soon, though I imagine one will appear sometime next year.

3 Models will be available:  Cooper Coupe, Cooper S Coupe and the John Cooper Works Coupe.

The very style 2 seater is also the fastest factory Mini ever.  A 1.6L four cylinder engine paired with a 6 speed manual gearbox.  A six speed automatic gearbox is also available  for the Cooper Coupe and the Cooper S Coupe.  The EU standard lists fuel consumption at 18.51 kms/liter. (You know that is not as good as the Demio!)

The 2 faster models add a twin scroll turbocharger and direct-injection to the 1.6 liter engine.  In JCW trim, the Coupe has 208 horsepower at 6,000 rpm.

Speeding tickets for all three models: the Coupe breaks the speed limit (except on the Autobahn in Germany) at a max. of 140miles/hr (225kms), the S Coupe 142 MPH (228kms/hr) and the JCW 149 MPH (239 kms/hr).

Perhaps it should try stealing the Toyota Lexus LFA of its  Nurburgring title?

Auction Finds: BMW 2000 CS Coupe

posted September 28th, 2009 by jonfrench

This 2000CS BMW was in the auction last week, a grade 2 selling for almost 400,000 Yen. This model was made between 1965 and 1968. To my eyes the styling is pleasantly modern, although maybe not to everyone’s tastes. Apparently, the 2800CS is more popular, but if you want an affordable and classy classic, this could be the one for you.
