2012 Nissan GTR to have back seats removed!
The 2012 Nissan GTR model to be sold from this November in Japan will have a “TRACK PACK” version which will inherit the present Spec-V’s DNA plus the lightness of having no back seat for ideal trackday performances.
By improving the Nissan GT-R’s engine efficiency, its fuel economy has been decreased from 12L to 11.8L/100 Kms, not that people own a GTR to decrease their fossil fuel footprint! At the same time engine output rises from 390kW to 404kW at 6,4000rpm, also maximum torque from 612 to 632Nm from between 3,200 to 5,800 rpm.
Engine response and torque at mid- and low-speeds, and power at high revs, has been significantly improved due to;
- improved intake efficiency
- better air flow resistance,
- improved exhaust emissions efficiency and control
- reduced air flow resistance thanks to a more compact cat. converter
- improved exhaust valve cooling performance by the adoption of a newly-designed metallic sodium-filled valve!

New Honda NSX confirmed
According to autocar.co.uk, Honda plans to release it’s latest model of the iconic Honda NSX, it could be on sale as early as next year. Takanobu Ito stated that Honda was working on the next generation of its electric vehicle, and suggested that a new sportscar would be evaluated as part of that project. He widely hinted that the new Honda NSX would be a hybrid.
Reports have suggested the concept car would be shown at next month’s Tokyo motor show and a production car being produced early in 2012.
Don’t hope to buy one in one of the Japanese car auctions any day soon, though I imagine one will appear sometime next year.

Mazda jumps on to the “Black Edition” bandwagon with its Roadster
The Euro-Focus has one, HUMMER has one, Mercedes has one, Porsche has a few of them, Nissan has one, so why shouldn’t Mazda have one too? Introducing the Mazda Roadster black-tuned edition. It went on sale in Japan this week. So why isn’t the car black? Perhaps it is just the roof that is going to be black? And it isn’t just any roof, it is a hard top roof, and not only that, it is a retractable hard top roof! That, according to Mazda, qualifies it for the black-tuned edition. Not enough you may think? OK, let’s throw in some black door mirrors, and some black 17inch alloy wheels (actually metallic grey 17inch alloy wheels, but closer to black than red right?). Not enough black you still think? OK, let’s go inside. How about black leather seats and a black leather steering wheel? No? Well the final touches by Mazda to make this Roadster RS RHT into the official Mazda Roadster black-tuned edition: give them three possible colors, “spirited green metallic”, “velocity red” and “crystal white pearl”. (Yes, no black version! But this is the black version?!).
Buy one new or get one in the auctions soon, again, near new is cheaper than new-new!

Nissan Juke, a querky compact SUV
Now we want to keep our SUV lifestyle but we want to dump the pain we feel at the service station when we attempt to fill them up! Enter the Nissan concept of the SUV compact. 1.6L turbocharged engine, with an output of 188 Japanese horses (just as fast as any Italian horse), but with a consumption of 14 km/L.
(Nissan has the more subdued 1.5L non-turbo versions, to make safe riding for your grandmother should she want to join you. She will be happier with the consumption too, dropping back to 19km/L.)
One thing the creators of the Juke (find one in the auctions) didn’t consider was a rear wheel drive manual version for rally driving.
Below is a Juke GT turbo that sold in the auction today.

20 Years for Nissan Serena, 4 generations!
Now this is a car I have had a personal relationship with, both the diesel and the petrol. If you are a family man with one more child than the law allows you to have with a normal car (most cars are 5 seaters!) you might have had a brush with this car/van/people mover / coach, even if you didn’t own one, you probably thought about it!
New … well a bit expensive.
Used Nissan Serena? Value for money. Back when it all began, there wasn’t much choice from the Japanese market for a bigger family, alas, the average Japanese family was just under 3 people (not children silly, the total family number, that is Mum Dad and nearly a whole kid!). So to find a vehicle that would hold more than 5 people, there wasn’t much choice.
The main competitors back then were the Mistubishi Chariot: ok if you had short legs! Some expensive 4WDs like the Toyota Prado. But what if you had no plans of ascending a 40 degree muddy hill in low gear 4WD diff lock? What if you just wanted to drive to the next town, in un-cramped comfort? As far as I could remember you had the Toyota Hiace Van / Wagon or at a much cheaper price, yet no less quality, the Nissan Serena, diesel or petrol. I had more than one of them! Never regretted it, loved the journey!
So lets introduce the Nissan Serena generations:
Nissan Vanette Serena (1991-1994):
First Generation Nissan Serena (C23, 1994-1999):

Toyota Lexus LFA outspeeds the Nissan GTR at the Nurburgring race track
Toyota doesn’t just make the Prius, they also make the Lexus LFA. So what you may think? What is the LFA, sorry, Lexus LFA? Just a car that kicked the Nissan GT-R R35 off its throne, that used to hold the record for the fastest production car on the German Nurburgring racing track. It broke Nissan’s record by 3 seconds! Wow, 6x the price for 3 seconds!
Toyota does have a major problem with this car however. They built it with the steering wheel on the wrong side of the car. It is definitely LHD (left hand drive)! In my British commonwealth country, that means I can’t drive it. I can pretend to, but the reality is that my wife will be on the left hand side of the car driving it for me. After selling my house and all I posses to purchase this Lexus, that will be a big disappointment! What’s more, where do you put the kids, or the supermarket shopping? At least the GTR (apart from the Nurburgring Spec V version) is a 4 seater!
Naah, my house isn’t very close to the Nurburgring race track anyway so I might as well not sell the house and everything else, just take out a loan and buy the GTR instead. At least I will be doing the driving (and not the wife!).

Frowning Monobrow - Ferrari 458 Italia Borrows From Nissan Silvia S15
Well, that is what I think at least. These pics don’t really show it so clearly, but take a look at an S15 Nissan Silvia in the flesh, and the front end / light cluster “frowning mono-brow” look is remarkably similar to the face of the new Ferrari 458 Italia.
The Ferrari looks meaner, as well it should costing many bucket-loads of pachinko winnings more than the Nissan, but the underlying concept is the same, surely? Take a look and see what you think:

GT-R Eats 60s Classic and Gets Indigestion
While I am a big fan of the technology and sheet ability of the Nissan GT-R, I have to say that for me the styling is definitely function over form. Call me a Ferrari lover all you want, but there is something uniquely challenging about the GT-R’s shape.
And I don’t think I am necessarily the only one out there. So let’s just say I was surprised when Mercedes decided that cross-breeding the late 50s / early 60s classic gull wing SL with the GT-R was the way to go with the metal work for their new Mercedes AMG SLS. It looks like the GT-R gulped down the gull wing and got indigestion for its trouble. Check out the head lights in particular.

Auction Finds: 1999 GT-R V-Spec with only 1,390km!
Sometimes I see cars in the Japanese car auctions and I really wonder what the previous owner was like. Take this beautiful Nissan GT-R V-Spec. Bought in 1999 with the same owner ever since, it is immaculately turned out with only 1,390 (authentic) kilometers on the clock. Now, I understand how a proud owner would love their car, but surely a car like this is just begging to be driven. I mean, this car is ten years old, so it has not even managed 200 km each year!
Where has it been? What has it been up to? It’s all a mystery.
Whatever the reasons, the low mileage got the buyers out with it reaching almost 4 million at auction, when regular V-Specs of this age and grading (4.5) would normally average 3.1 million - although they also would typically have about 70,000KM on the clock, whereas this pristine example is only just starting to get run in.
